Woodville House and Walled Garden

Woodville House Walled Garden is set near Kilchreest, at the foot of the Slieve Aughty Mountains in Southeast County Galway. The walled garden at Woodville has been beautifully restored with colourful herbaceous borders, established fruit trees, and a serene water fountain. Another feature of the garden is a surviving dovecote, which is one of the few remaining garden follies in the west of Ireland. The adjoining stables exhibit the history of Woodville and the surrounding locality.

A visit to the garden takes guests through the 18th century, as it was once home to two prominent Galway families. The D'arcys were one of the tribes of Galway City, and Robert was the most colourful character of the family, as he was land agent for the Earl of Clanricarde during the famine period of 1828-1860. Harry Persse, brother to Lady Augusta Gregory, also resided at Woodville at the beginning of the last century. A visit is a must for both garden enthusiasts and historians alike.

The garden plays host to many events during the year, including the celebration of snowdrops and helleborous, Daffodil Day, Bluebell Woods, a bunny Easter event, and the tulip firelight display.
