Songs From Here / Amhráin As Seo

The aim of this project is to commission a new original song by Padraig Jack, developed through direct engagement with local community groups in County Tipperary. Rather than the song being written in isolation, Padraig will spend time with groups such as the day care centre in Cashel and a local Comhaltas group for young musicians, listening to stories, ideas and musical influences that reflect their experiences and sense of place. These conversations and encounters will feed directly into the writing of the new work.

The project also aims to create welcoming and practical opportunities for people to take part in the creative process. Padraig will deliver songwriting workshops with the Comhaltas group and other young participants, sharing how songs are shaped and encouraging people to explore their own ideas, whether through lyrics, melody or discussion. The focus is on participation, confidence-building and showing that songwriting is something that can grow from everyday experiences.

Once the song is completed, Padraig will return to the community to share the work through a series of small, local performances in the library. These performances will include reflections on how the song was shaped by the groups involved, alongside performances of Padraig’s existing bilingual repertoire, alongside comhaltas.
