What to expect

Located within the Akeragh, Banna and Barrow Special Area of Conservation (SAC), Ballyheigue beach is part of a 10km stretch of sandy beach which is backed by extensive sand dunes.

Walk the 3km strand and reach the outlet from Lough Akeragh, where you can take to the water for a spot of swimming, surfing and other aquatic adventures.

Be sure to make a pit stop during the bathing season when the beach is lifeguarded to enjoy the water even more. For more information, see the notice board on the beach.
