The National Monument of Mullaghmast is located 3km west of Ballitore in County Kildare. This site includes earthworks, ringforts, barrows and a standing stone, with the overall site being dominated by Rath Mor. A rath in Irish means an ancient fort.

Mullaghmast was one of the O'Toole forts and was the scene of many battles. Accounts of happenings here appear in the Annals. There were numerous battles fought here in the 2nd and 3rd centuries and again in the 16th century.
