Ceann Iorrais (Erris Head)

The north facing cliffs are some of the most exposed in Ireland, and along the route you’ll see the remains of the WWII marine and coastguard service lookout post. You should also be able to make out the large markings of ‘ÉIRE 62’, which marks one of over 80 coastal navigational aids placed around the Irish coast in 1942 and 1943 to help pilots identify the land as Ireland, a neutral country.
Below the headland’s steep cliffs, Atlantic seals, porpoises and bottlenose dolphin can occasionally be seen. Rare choughs, or Irish crows, are known to nest on the cliffs, and Irish hares often play on the grassland.
