The Ferns Tapestry is a remarkable 15-metre community masterpiece of crewel embroidery. Its 25 colourful panels bring to life the rich history of this ancient place — from the arrival of St Aidan in 598 AD and the early monastic settlement, through Viking raids and the turbulent career of Diarmait Mac Murchada, to the coming of the Normans in 1169, with glimpses of later life in the town.
