Cablemaster's Residence, Knightstown, Kerry

Families can visit the historic home of James Graves, the supervisor of the Valentia Cable Station, and learn about the transatlantic cable that connected Europe and the United States.

For thirty to forty years, between 1865 and 1909, this building was the home of the first supervisor of the Valentia Cable Station, James Graves. This transatlantic cable station was the terminus of all European communications from the United States. Every message crossing the Atlantic passed through this station under the supervision of James Graves.
