Inishkea Islands
Take a boat trip to the Inishkea Islands to see old stone cottages, monastic ruins, and a whaling station. Look out for grey seals and various birds.
The two Inishkea islands have been uninhabited since the 1930s but there are a number of boat tours in the region to make the short crossing to the islands. See the remains of stone cottages and monastic life from the 1800s, including the king’s house and old Norwegian whaling station. The islands are a haven for wildlife, including grey seals, barnacle geese, peregrine falcons, and lapwing. Flora includes northern marsh orchid, white clover and tufted vetches.
