Barley Cove, Cork

Visit Barley Cove, a sandy beach with dunes formed by a tsunami. You can get to the beach from the car park by crossing a floating pontoon over a river.

This Discovery Point is reached by attractive narrow country roads with impressive views over the surrounding landscape. In contrast to the predominately rocky coastal landscape of the area, Barley Cove includes a comprehensive sand dunes system, which it is understood were formed as the result of a tsunami in 1755. Access to the beach is gained from the car park via a floating pontoon over the adjacent river.
